About the event

Calling all organizations with the capacity to reach multiple supporters/members :

Do you believe that for democracy to be genuine, all voices must be represented in decision-making?

Do you want our elected bodies to reflect the rich diversity of the people they serve to make better decisions?

If yes, you will want to join our call to Balance the Power!.

As you may have heard, Balance the Power is an intersectional, engaging campaign that will promote how elected bodies deliver better outcomes for everyone when all our voices are meaningfully included in decision-making. We will demonstrate the growing demand for politicians to change politics for good.

Launching in January, Balance the Power will:

  • call on politicians and political leaders to sign a pledge to take concrete action to increase diversity and representation of women and equity-deserving communities in elected bodies
  • mobilize broad public action to apply pressure on their elected representatives to sign the pledge
  • amplify other organizations' urgent priority issues by connecting them to the positive policy outcomes that are possible with greater diversity and representation in politics

To make it as easy as possible for organizations to get involved, we’re cooking up a menu of 10 ways we can support you!

Join one of two webinars to hear more about the campaign and peruse the menu:

Wednesday, November 29, 2-3pm EST = French

Registration deadline: November 24

(We will make session recordings available to organizations who cannot make it to one of these webinars.)

Please spread the word to other organizations.

We look forward to connecting and collaborating!

Our Land Acknowledgment

Balance the Power acknowledges that the land on which we live and work is the homeland of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, who have lived on it for millennia. We recognize the genocidal policies implemented against Indigenous peoples by settlers and many elected governments. We profoundly regret that historical and contemporary policies continue to disenfranchise Indigenous communities.

On Indigenous Inclusion

Meaningful participation and inclusion of Indigenous women and gender-diverse people is central to the premise and spirit of this campaign. We have and will continue to seek Indigenous perspectives and experiences to inform and guide this campaign.

Urge your elected representatives to sign the pledge to increase the diversity and representation of women and equity-deserving communities in our elected bodies.
